Soooo, I'm guessing that you're checking out this Page because you are serious about finding out more about the links between sugar and your health.
To help you and I, I've created this Page as a resource of online information about sugar and your health. If you haven't already checked out my Categories section on the blog, the Sugar Wars category will take you to all the Posts I've blogged about on your our health.
Google Alerts alerts me to new articles from around the world each day about the links between sugar and obesity, and sugar and health. I also check out my favourite health blogs and people on Twitter to see what new things they've come up with as well.
I'll list the links indiscriminately, annotate them briefly and let you make up your own mind, which of course you'll do.
- Is Sugar Toxic? This article by Gary Taubes appeared in the New York Times on April 13th 2011. It is 9 pages of a very good read. Taubes is a journalist and has been looking at this issue for about a decade. He demystifies the science. He includes a video lecture link that is an important addition to the debate. I intend to read this a few times to get my head around it.
- Sugar's Health Effects A female doctor talks about the negative effects of sugar in the Huffington Post on the 7th July 2011. She offers a recipe based on safer versions of sweetners. I wish I had her as a GP!!
- Deepak Chopra on sugar and its harmful effects besides the obesity question. Very readable article. Contains a series of good links to further information. Huffington Post 5/7/2011
- Classic hour and a half YouTube lecture by Robert H. Lustig, Robert H. Lustig, MD, UCSF Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Endocrinology, explores the damage caused by sugary foods. He argues that fructose (too much) and fiber (not enough) appear to be cornerstones of the obesity epidemic through their effects on insulin. Series: UCSF Mini Medical School for the Public [7/2009] [Health and Medicine] [Show ID: 16717]
